Carlos Rodón has been named the New York Yankees’ Opening Day starter after Gerrit Cole opted for Tommy John surgery earlier this week, effectively ending his season.
This marks a significant change in the Yankees’ pitching plans, as they will now have to rely on Rodón more often and hope he can be the pitcher he was in San Fransisco the year before the Yankees signed him.
With Rodón and Fried now leading the Yankees’ rotation, all eyes will be on the two highly paid lefties. If they can come together as one of the top left-handed duos in baseball, the Yankees could have a real shot at making a deep playoff run once again. Nothing will come easy and the pressure is on both to stay healthy and pitch like the aces they’re capable of being. If they can do that the Yankees might just have what it takes to get back to the World Series this year.
