Guardians Sign Tanner Bibee to Five-Year Extension

The Cleveland Guardians have locked up Tanner Bibee, with a five-year contract extension that includes a club option for the 2030 season. Reports suggest the deal is worth at least $48 million and could go up to $68 million if the 2030 option is exercised.

This extension is a big statement from the Guardians, showing their commitment to Bibee as a key part of their pitching rotation for the future. The deal will pay Bibee $3 million in 2025, and then it increases steadily in the following years, with $4 million in 2026, $7 million in 2027, and $10 million in 2028. If the option is picked up, he’ll earn $21 million in 2029 and another $21 million in 2030, with a $1 million buyout if the club chooses not to exercise the option.

The 26-year-old pitcher has shown potential in his young career. In 2023, he finished as the runner-up for American League Rookie of the Year, going 10-4 with a 2.98 ERA and 141 strikeouts. In 2024, he proved 2023 was not a fluke, posting a 12-8 record with a 3.47 ERA and 187 strikeouts. Bibee has been a steady part of the Guardians rotation, and this contract extension ensures he’ll be a key piece of their rotation for years to come.

With Opening Day around the corner, Bibee is set to take the mound as the Guardians’ starter. Cleveland has invested in the future of their pitching staff, and with Bibee at the helm, the team has a solid foundation for years to come.
