Max Fried took the mound today and showed exactly why the Yankees made a big investment in him this offseason. The lefty was dominant, tossing seven shutout innings with 11 strikeouts while allowing just five hits in the 4-3 win over the Tigers.
It was a special matchup as Fried faced off against his former high school teammate Jack Flaherty, adding a personal layer to an already impressive outing.
Since signing his eight-year, $218 million deal with New York after eight seasons with the Braves, Fried has looked every bit the ace the Yankees hoped for. He’s now 2-0 on the year with a stellar 1.56 ERA and 21 strikeouts in just over 17 innings.
Performances like today’s are exactly what the Yankees need as they aim to win the AL East and get back to the World Series. Fried isn’t just fitting in—he’s thriving, and fans in the Bronx have every reason to be excited.
