Adam Schefter is reporting that he doesn’t think it’s likely Aaron Rodgers will end up in Minnesota, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen. The ESPN insider recently said the Vikings could be in the mix, but nothing is imminent, and it wouldn’t be his expected landing spot. But if history has taught us anything, it’s that Rodgers is unpredictable—and the only person who truly knows what he’s going to do is Rodgers himself.
Rodgers has made it clear that media insiders like Schefter aren’t part of his inner circle. He even once told Schefter to “lose my number”, reminding everyone that he doesn’t like people speculating on his decisions. Rodgers controls his own narrative, and he’s never been afraid to go against expectations just to prove a point.
Minnesota actually makes a ton of sense for Rodgers, whether Schefter sees it coming or not. The Vikings have a win-now roster, and they might not be ready to hand the keys over to J.J. McCarthy, a rookie who hasn’t played a single NFL snap. Instead of rolling the dice on an unproven player, they could sign a future Hall of Famer in Rodgers, who just happens to be available. Minnesota has elite weapons in Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, and they’re trying to stay competitive in the NFC North. Not to mention, Rodgers would be following the playbook Brett Favre, who also went from Green Bay to New York to Minnesota late in his career left for him.
Schefter may not think it’s likely, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen. Rodgers has always done things his own way, and if he wants to shake up the NFL by going to Minnesota, he’ll do exactly that—whether anyone sees it coming or not.
