The controversial “Tush Push” play, could soon be a thing of the past. The Green Bay Packers have officially proposed a rule change to ban the quarterback sneak tactic that the Philadelphia Eagles do so well. The ban cites concerns about player safety and competitive fairness. The proposal will be reviewed during the NFL’s Annual League Meeting from March 30 to April 2, where at least 24 of 32 team owners must vote in favor for the ban to take effect.
The ban proposal argues that the play gives teams, especially those with strong offensive lines, an unfair advantage and increases injury risks. On the other hand, opponents believe it’s simply a well-executed strategy and should remain legal.
With momentum reportedly growing for the ban, the NFL is at a crossroads. Will teams (mainly the Eagles) lose one of the most effective short-yardage plays in football, or will the “Tush Push” survive another season?
