The Seattle Mariners have locked up one of the best catchers in baseball, signing catcher Cal Raleigh to a six-year, $105 million contract extension. The deal, which includes a full no-trade clause, could reach $123 million with incentives, keeping Raleigh in Seattle through 2030.
In 2024, Raleigh led the team with 34 home runs and 100 RBIs and has hit 27 or more home runs in each of the past three seasons, proving to be one of baseball’s top power-hitting catchers. Defensively, he was just as dominant, winning both the Gold Glove and Platinum Glove Awards while throwing out 32 base stealers—tied for the most in the majors.
Seattle’s decision to lock him up long-term makes sense. Raleigh has played more games than almost any other catcher over the past three seasons, and being durable as a catcher is something that is truly valued in baseball, especially in the nature of today’s game. The Mariners have a solid core, and if Julio Rodríguez can return to form, the Mariners might just be dangerous in the American League.
This extension not only secures Raleigh’s future in Seattle but also proves that the Mariners are committed to building a winning team.
As for fantasy purposes, fantasy managers can be very excited about Raleigh this upcoming season and can count on him to be a top three power hitting catcher.
